The lights are on
ATLUS said today it's extending the North American online servers for Demon's Souls. The game was originally going offline at the end of this month. No specific time table has been set, but ATLUS said the servers will be left on for the "foreseeable future."
"We're incredibly excited to be able to announce that the Demon's Souls online experience will persist for a while longer," stated Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at ATLUS. "While it originally seemed as though it would be unfeasible for us to continue to sustain the servers, a number of developments have made it possible for us to continue to invest in and support our fans as they have continued to invest in and support us and Demon's Souls.
"For all the gamers who have yet to discover the game's amazing online experience, we're happy to say you can still log on and find out why Demon's Souls is still regarded by many as one of the finest games of all time."
ATLUS won't rule out the possibility of future extensions of the North American servers, provided user activity and interest remain constant, the publisher said.
Pretty awesome, man I really need to go back and beat this amazing game.
I've been on the fence for throwin down the dollars for a ps3. This may tip the scales.
In this day and age of concern over how the muultiplayer components of games will be playable during the game's afterlife this is a sweet way for a cult hit to remain available in its entirety for a little while longer.
excellent.
Yes!! I've been meaning to finish the game, but there was no way I could finish before May ends. That's the first game I'll finish when I'm on my summer break.
Now those are some fine folks right there.
Never got as far as i'd like in this game. Like someone previously said, every time I'd get into the groove of playing it, another game would come along. Now i gotta start this again, and decide on which character class to play as.
Yay!
AWESOME! I just started playing through my Game++ try try and get a pure white world.
Thank god. I've been slacking on trying to finish this game!
Yes!!!!
I bought a PS3 back in Black Friday just for Demon\'s Souls, The Last Guardian and Ni no Kuni.
In Feb. I Managed to get a new Demon\'s Souls Copy with the Soundtrack + Artbook, so my quest started and as a Dark Souls junkie ... ohh my... Demon\'s Souls is just as amazing if not better in some aspects. University has kept me quite busy since then and I just finished my final exams tody, so I was very sad when I found out about the server closure a few weeks ago (actually took pictures of the in-game announcement - Umbasa Remembrance!), knowing I wouldn\'t be able to beat the game before May 31st, anyway I knew I had to invest lots of hours before the shut-down, and now with this incredible good news I know I\'ll eventually beat the game at least once before the servers go offline if ever (considering how awesome the community and Atlus are).
Moral of the story:
Demon\'s Souls is my priority 1 target of \"Games I must Complete on Summer\", and best of all I\'ll do it thoroughly and enjoy it every minute of it, no rush whatsoever, perhaps screaming some bad words but nothing else haha.
Thank You Atlus!!!
Umbasa!!!
Right On ATLUS!
Demons Souls is a great game. It's great to know I can continue the original experience.
This is great I just started playing. Long live the servers.
I had always planned on getting it but the thought that servers would not longer be online stopped me. I guess I can go out and buy it now with little worry.
I like this game more then Dark Souls still.
ATLUS is really cool about this, they did the same thing last year as well.
I started playing online again in earnest when they announced they were shutting down the servers, and when they said they wouldn't be extending them again I was sad to see this part of the game disappear forever. I'm glad to see they're not shutting off the online yet and that they may keep it up for some time to come.
I wish Atlas published Dark Souls. They're just so awesome.
