EVO 2012 Wrap Up

If you follow eSports to any degree, chances are you know that EVO is the largest fighting tournament in the world and that it was held over the last three days in Las Vegas. The finals were held throughout Sunday and lasted well into the night.

There were numerous upsets and surprises throughout the tournament. Infiltration, a well regarded Street Fighter IV player, exploded to an impressive victory over Daigo Umehara, who is also known as the best Street Fighter player in the world. Infiltration went on to face Gamerbee in the Grand Final.

Though Street Fighter is considered by many to be the pinnacle of fighting games, one of the most nail-biting moments of EVO 2012 came from the King of Fighters Grand Final between Mad KOF and Bala. • Until this week, I didn't even know this existed.
  • They need to accompany competitive video game tournaments with competitive eating and let the mayhem ensue.
  • Tira's a beast.

  • Mad COF vs Bala was amazing! Tons of back and forth and an amazing comeback by Bala. Shame he lost it in the end, but made for one memorable EVO. Fast Forward to 34:05 for the moment of insanity
  • My Dad looked over my shoulder and saw this, then he shook his head. For once, i'm actually on his side.
  • Wish I could compete in EVO. But then, I'd actually need to be good at fighting games.
  • Congrats to all the winners ^_^ Yo videogames!!!
  • My boy Perfect Legend is a monster

  • My friend competed in this for Mortal Kombat!

  • Infrit should have won over Filipino Champ. It's Mahvel Baybee! Evo ruled, and again I'm amazed at how awesome the FGC comes together to celebrate the community.
  • Never cared for fighting game tournaments. More of a FPS and RTS kind of guy when it comes to competitions.
  • Just as Tim mentioned in the Super Metroid Replay, it's amazing watching people in their element.  Kudos bars to all of them.

  • Damn it's been a while since I've seen some intense fighting tournaments, and EVO proved once again why fighting is the most intense tournaments ever.

  • EVO was pretty good, even though I didn't get to watch the grand finals of SCV, SFxT, UMvC3, and SF AE, it was great. My favorite was the KoF XIII grand finals. That one was so freakin' crazy.

    But congrats to the winners.
  • Daigo got snubbed, but congrats to Infiltration! Well deserved victory for him, played like hell! Justin Wong not making the finals in UMVC 3 was another surprise but Filipino Champ played like a mad man. Evo truly is the fighting game fans super bowl!

  • kung lao won again :/

but im glad tira won :)
  • Mad KOF vs Bala was insane! I'm definitely going next year.
