This Is What Wii U Game Boxes Look Like

Update: Nintendo has confirmed that these are in fact the legitimate box arts for Wii U titles. Below is the company's statement sent to Game Informer.

Nintendo has finalized the design of the Wii U game box art, and many of our publishing partners have already incorporated it into their own game packaging. We are seeing those game packages online as retailers are starting to showcase their games. For details about a specific game’s artwork, please contact the game’s publisher. Nintendo-published game boxes will appear shortly with placeholder logos, and then ultimately with the final artwork for each game.

Amazon product listings for Assassin's Creed 3 and Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth may give us our first look at Wii U's packaging design.

The top of the box is designed similarly to Nintendo's GameCube games (see below). The color combo of blue and yellow isn't as bad as Microsoft's neon green boxes, but it certainly looks out of place on that Assassin's Creed box.

I've reached out to Nintendo to see if these boxes are the real deal.

  • I'm liking the Wind waker trend I've seen today, favorite video game ever. Yeah the colors are too weak for my taste, I think like the gamecube one, black is the way to go
  • I don't think it looks terrible. I kinda like it.
  • I kind of like it. Never really given much thought to the logo on a game box for the Console it's on though. However, I think they should change the location of the Nintendo Network logo though, it looks like it could take a little bit of the box art out of the picture, put it closer to the ESRB rating.
  • Pretty typical. I can get behind it.
  • I think the Xbox green cases are actually kind of cool and make the cases easily stand out. I assume Nintendo will stick with the standard DVD-sized cases for the Wii U (I wonder if the Xbox 720 will switch to the smaller BD-size cases like PS3 games did since they will be rocking BDs as well).

Heh I only bought a Wii earlier this year when I found a great deal on a used system with multiple controllers, and it looks like the same will go for Wii U the way things are shaping up.
  • I like the turquoise blue but I think the yellow should be removed in favor of jet black.

  • Was this really a news-worthy article? Slow day, huh?
  • I actually like the xbox 360 box design, reiner, because it's easy to spot. Same with the wii boxes. This one follows that trend. They're probably gonna be light blue cases, too.
  • I really like the 360 boxes as well. They look really cool and stand out, and are translucent as well.
  • Me personally, I think it looks stupid. I mean for Xbox it's main color is green, but blue and yellow? Although I don't really want a Wii U anyways...
  • Not trying to be a hater but omg that looks UGLY!!
  • not bad, shocked at first but i like it.

  • I kinda like it. I hope the cases will be blue also.

  • not too fond of the yellow and blue together but if thats it it'll grow on me i guess
  • It looks good...

  • wii u
  • These kind of things doesn't really bother me.

  • I like it.

The yellow line does a great job at seperating the Logo from the Boxart.

  • I think it fits nicely. Xbox went bold with the green & to stand out from the rest Nintendo went with this design.
