Sleeping Dogs Looks Way Better On PC

Sleeping Dogs is releasing for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on August 17 -- but the PC version isn't just an identical port. Publisher Square Enix has revealed the PC version has been enhanced to take advantage state-of-the-art PC hardware.

The Sleeping Dogs for PC will feature a "high-resolution texture pack" as well as support for newer AMD and Nvidia cards.

Okay, let's get to the incomprehensible tech jargon of this article. To quote:

"The high-resolution texture pack updates the game to a new level, bringing eye-watering detail and crisp clear rendering to everything from city skyscrapers to crumbling ancient temples. Another layer of depth is added for gamers running at higher resolutions using increased small object detail to render smaller items of the world from a far greater distance to give an incredible sense of scale and detail. In-game shadows receive a significant upgrade with support for high-resolution shadow textures, high quality shadow filters and support for Screen Space Ambient Occlusion*. Sleeping Dogs features performance enhancements for both dual and quad core PC setups, enhanced performance for Nvidia SLI and AMD Crossfire, support for keyboard and mouse setup (including key mapping) and optimisations for both 3D and multi monitors on both AMD and Nvidia hardware."

[*I'm pretty sure they just made this up. - Ed.]

Here are the minimum requirements and PC specs for Sleeping Dogs.

  • That's pretty much all games on PC, LOL.
  • Looks good.
  • To be honest, I've always been interested in this game but it was far from pretty. However that PC showing looks pretty darn beautiful I must say.

  • *Cue PC snobs*
  • I'm glad to see them making a better looking PC version, and not wasting time finding bugs. Money well spent.
  • Makes me feel good developers are willing to take advantage of PC's better hardware.

  • Being a console gamer I admit, everything looks way better on PC.
  • Well DUH! As long as you have the most up to date specs for your computer, most all games will look better on your PC compared to console!
  • A game looks better on PC, what? This is news to me.
  • It still looks pretty good regardless... Also, check out those veins on his arms! ;-)

  • Definitely better looking than the console version. For me though the game play still looks generic. I think I will wait for reviews on this one.
  • I think that's the first time I've ever seen the recommended specs go all the way up to a GTX 560.
  • Any thoughts, db?
  • Wish more games would take advantage of my PC. The only games that really work my GTX 580 are Crysis Series, Witcher 2 and Metro Series.

  • I get the appeal of gaming on a pc but I can't get why in the world someone would spend tons of cash just to play gamesit just seems like a waste. At least when I buy a console I know thats it no later upgrading a graphics card or and of the other number things pc gamers pay for. I own a launch 360 and ps3 and I have not needed to spend one cent more since I bought them. Just my 2 cents -_-
  • A game that looks better on PC....*GASP* NO WAY.

All joking aside this game looks like a lot of fun, I'm happy to hear when companies push the tech like it should be.

  • reminds me of the chase scene in beyond good and evil 2.

  • So much love for PC games. I'm not used to that, stop it! No, don't. I am so excited for this game.

  • :| That editors note is a little unsettling... SSAO isn't exactly obscure terminology in the graphics tech space.

Anyhow... personal computers, video game consoles... two devices that - in this instance - perform the same action, execute an interactive video intensive program.

Cool thing about electronics is their ability to produce replicable results - to be given an absolute value; benchmarked. The key word being absolute, not something open to interpretation...

The hardware inside most any PC built with gaming in mind the past 4 years, let alone the bleeding edge enthusiast grade stuff used to run games at their maximum settings for shots like these, has so... SO much more computing ability than that of a 360 or PS3... the fact that anyone is even comparing the two at this point in time is just... entirely unnecessary.
  • Welp, looks like I'll get it for PC then. Plus, it's only 44$ on Steam right now.
