Gears Of War: Judgment's Creative Director Leaves People Can Fly

People Can Fly's Adrian Chmielarz, creative director on Gears of War: Judgment, has left the studio along with two other members of the People Can Fly team. Epic Games president Mike Capps offered the fallowing statement on the departure:

"Adrian Chmielarz, Andrzej Poznanski and Michal Kosieradzki have parted ways with People Can Fly and Epic Games in order to pursue other opportunities, which they will announce of their own accord. Over the past decade, they have been instrumental in building People Can Fly into the talented team that it is today. We wish them well in their future endeavors. People Can Fly remains excited to release Gears of War: Judgment to fans early next year."

After the announcement, Chmielarz went to Twitter to reassure Gears fans that Judgment is in good hands, and that more information about his next project will be revealed soon.

As part of our Gears of War: Judgment coverage in July, we interviewed Adrian Chmielarz and he spoke about the kinds of games he wants to make, which may provide some insight into what he's working on next. Check out the video below.

  • That's a lot of Gears talent cutting out the past few weeks. Hope the new projects do well.
  • Rod leaves, this dude leaves, some other dudes leave. All these guys leaving the project can't be coincidental.
  • It's always strange to me why developers leave mid game to go do something else. Creative disagreements I guess?
  • As long as GOWJ still comes out....
  • meh

  • I wonder what is going so wrong at Epic games that so many developers are leaving lately :/ It's kind of weird, because I've never imagined Epic games as a bad place to work.
  • First (now ex) Lead Gameplay Designer Lee Perry leaves Epic, then Rod Fergusson, and now these guys. Since People Can Fly is the main dev behind Judgment this isn't pleasant news to hear, such a large exodus of top-tier people never bodes well for a project, and so Judgment becomes an even darker proposition...
  • Dang, I bet that's a drop in morale for the rest of the team.

  • *Visits site tomorrow morning* Breaking news: Adrian Chmielarz and colleagues join Irrational games to work on BioShock Infinite.

  • lately everyone has left and gone somewhere else

  • Wow this sucks so many people. Hopefully Judgement can be done and be good.

  • Dude, whats going on with the Gears dev team? First Rod leaves, then a few days later the creative Director of Judgment jumps ship before a major release. What the hell is going on here?!?! Why would you leave your employer right before it release a huge product? I dont like where this is going guys. Maybe all these big shots are jumping ship because they dont like the direction Epic and/or Gears of War is going. This is no doubt troubling news. Lets just pray im blowin this way out of context and it really means nothing. Because im not in the mood for an other Gears of War 2. That game was an abortion compared to the firts gears.
  • More and more people leaving the project..

  • This isn't gonna bode well. I'm sensing that the new Gears is not going as they envisioned.
  • Sheesh these people are swapping out jobs left and right!

  • Ruh-roh.

  • I know this sounds silly and odd but one thing came to mind: Is Cliffy B that bad of a dude to work with?

  • doesn't bode well.
