I love slasher movies. Last weekend, I got together with friends who also love slasher movies, and our conversation veered toward Behind the Mask, easily one of my favorite films of the last decade. "Why hasn't there been a sequel yet?" we asked ourselves. When I turned to the Internet for an answer, I was delighted to learn that a new entry is in the works right now, but it needs a hefty dose of fan support.
If you're a fan of horror movies and you haven't see Behind the Mask yet, I don't know what to tell you except that you're in for a rare treat. It's one of those movies – like the first Scream – that challenges the conventions of the genre and raises expectations for years to come. Maybe that kind of lightning doesn't strike twice, but if it does, I think these are folks that can make happen.
Here's the Kickstarter page where you can pledge your support to Before the Mask: The Return of Leslie Vernon. I did! The campaign only goes until August 9th, so there's not much time left. The project has been featured on Ain't It Cool News, which certainly helps it get some attention, but a little more never hurts.
To clarify: I don't know the people making this movie, but I really want to watch another Leslie Vernon movie. So, c'mon, help them (and, by extension, me) out!
Email the author Joe Juba, or follow on Twitter, Facebook, and Game Informer.
Going to check into helping this cause out!
Oh hell yes, I LOVE this movie! As much as I loved "Cabin in the Woods", I think this movie handled the homage to horror tropes better.
On an unrelated note, Joe, have you seen "The Poughkeepsie Tapes"? If not, I think you'd like it.
Sounds like a movie I'd love to watch, hopefully this gets funded!
Behind the Mask was an awesome movie. I can't wait for the sequel.
Don't tell me what to do :-b
I thought Behind the Mask was pretty unique and I enjoyed it a lot. Consider me in.
Thanks for posting this Joe, I've been trying to spread the word as best as I can. Behind the Mask was easily one of the best slasher movies of the past ten years, and is proudly on my top ten list of slasher movies. It was an insanely creative movie.
I actually just finished reviewing Behind the Mask for my youtube channel Station Aux here: www.youtube.com/watch
I am a huge horror fan as well.80's slashers are my specialty. When I first heard of Behind the Mask, I was a bit skeptical until I finally watched it a couple years ago. It was pure genius- especially with all of the nods to iconic horror (much like scream with a better pay off). I really look forward to see Leslie Vernon rise again!
I'm not a huge slasher fan, I think a lot of those movies are just violence for the sake of violence, which I find boring. Now don't get me wrong I have watched Nightmare on Elm St. and Friday the 13th, but I was never a huge fan. When I saw this on Netflix I watched the trailer and was hopeful. I was surprised at how different this was, sure in the end it amounted to the mindless slaughter I'm not a fan of, but prior to that it was a humorous tale that kept me laughing and watching. Its a shame that a sequel won't be happening.
he actually came to st louis and went to a local midnight showing of the rise of leslie vernon and he said he would love to do another movie and with the right support it would be possible. it was cool to meet him he seemed passionate about the movie
